Maxwell is making a comeback five years after the release of blackSUMMERS’night. The 48-year-old Neo-soul legend is feeling different, he is a free man.
Maxwell owns his masters now
The “Pretty Wings” singer is no longer attached to a major label, and after 25 years in the game, he owns his masters. The freedom has given the New York native a new sense of purpose.
He plans to release the blacksummers’NIGHT album in the spring of 2022. This week, Maxwell debuted the single “Off” from the project, and many feel that it has a bit of Prince in the delivery.
On November 28, the “Fistful of Tears” artist will be honored with the Legend Award at the 2021 Soul Train Awards. The awards show will air on BET and BET Her at 8 p.m. EST.
Maxwell plans to tour with Joe and Anthony Hamilton
Starting March 22, Joe and Anthony Hamilton will join the nationwide Maxwell Night Tour. Tickets will go on sale on November 29 and pre-sales start on November 22.
In a new statement, Maxwell signals where things are headed for his career. He said: “From announcing a new partnership with BMG for my label Musze to receiving the Legend Award at the upcoming 2021 Soul Train Awards, I couldn’t be more excited to share this new single with loved ones offering a glimpse; into NIGHT….”
Maxwell addresses current music market as he releases “Off” single
Despite a successful career, Maxwell is humble when talking about the current music scene. He believes that it has become difficult to have a lane right now. The competition is more fierce and diverse.
He told Rolling Stone: “There’s so much music in the world now that you never know what will happen or why. There are no sure bets out here anymore.”
The “Fortunate” vocalist also explained: “I’m not big on trying to be famous. I would have made so many different choices. I would have a lot more features in my catalog than I do.”
Fans are excited for what Maxwell is bringing to the table regardless of the era.
